Raphael Selbourne wins McKitterick Prize 2010 for Beauty

The McKitterick Prize 2010 has been awarded to Raphael Selbourne for his debut novel, Beauty.

Raphael has received much praise for his compelling portrayal of a Bangladeshi girl living in inner city Wolverhampton, and has been listed for numerous pizes, winning the 2009 Costa First Novel Award in January.

The McKitterick Prize, run by The Society of Authors, is awarded to the best novel written by a debut author over the age of 40, and was endowed by the late Tom McKitterick. Raphael emerged from a shortlist including Amanda Smyth (Black Rock) and Gaile Parkin (Baking Cakes in Kigali) to win the Β£4000 prize.
