Among Thieves by Mez Packer has been long-listed for the prestigious 2010 Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award, we are delighted to announce.

Among Thieves – a countercultural literary thriller that moves from 2 Tone Coventry in the early 1980s to Spain, Albania and India – was chosen by members of the Authors’ Club and the Chair of judges, Suzi Feay.

The announcement comes on the heels of almost a year of high praise and laudatory reviews for Among Thieves. The Guardian wrote of the novel: ‘Comical, sometimes profound, this is a highly original debut’, and the Independent on Sunday felt that Mez’s witty, energetic and dark story is ‘reminiscent of Martin Amis – but better plotted.’

Among Thieves also was the October Winner of the 2009 People’s Book Prize.

The announcement is wonderful news for Mez Packer and for Tindal Street Press, whose reputation for publishing outstanding debut novels has been further consolidated by Raphael Selbourne’s recent win for Beauty in the 2009 Costa First Novel Award.
