Tindal Street Press, prize-winning independent literary publisher, seeks a dynamic and well-organised junior manager to make a difference within a small and dedicated team. Based in our Custard Factory office in Birmingham, the role will be targeted to improve every aspect of our publishing and will be a unique opportunity for an ambitious young publisher to make a major contribution at a distinctive moment of growth for Tindal Street, recently embarked on an exciting trade partnership with Atlantic Books and Independent Alliance.

The successful applicant will have superb organizational ability, marketing and financial awareness, business acumen, drive, flexibility, discipline and an excellent grasp of publishing systems based on at least three years’ trade publishing experience (which should have included several of: sales, marketing, publicity, contracts, rights, production, editorial, administration and finance).

Educated to degree level, with excellent written and oral communication skills and a meticulous eye for detail, he or she will be passionate about literary fiction, with strong IT skills (Excel essential, knowledge of Sage accounting and also specialist publishing software would be an advantage) and able to write and edit sharp copy at the same time as juggling competing schedules, deadlines and priorities. There will also be the opportunity to read manuscripts and to contribute to the comissioning process.

Responsible to
Mainly Publishing Director; also to Senior Editor

Main responsibilities
Operations management covering 3 key areas: Marketing, Finance, Sales; contributing to other areas: Production, Editorial, Publicity, Administration.
Overseeing day-to-day operations of three staff: Publishing Director; Senior Editor and Publicist; Publicity and Marketing Assistant
