Tindal Street Press is targeting 2011 as a year of growth as it links up with major independent publisher Atlantic Books in a trade partnership that will see an expanded list of titles and a boost in sales for the consistently prize-listed independent publisher.

Tindal Street is to join Atlantic Books in the Independent Alliance – a collective of independent publishers headed by Faber and Faber.

‘This exciting sales and distribution partnership marks a big step forward for Tindal Street’s publishing ambitions,’ comments Alan Mahar, Publishing Director of Tindal Street Press. ‘Tindal Street Press will remain independent, autonomous and in Birmingham – but we look forward contributing our distinctive brand of accessible literary fiction to the impressive international portfolio of the Atlantic group.’

Atlantic Books is highly esteemed within the industry as one of the most dynamic and successful independent publishers. Over the last few years, Atlantic has won acclaim with titles such as the Man Booker-winning White Tiger by Aravind Adiga, and books by Christopher Hitchens and Vince Cable. In 2009, it was Independent Publisher of the Year, and Imprint of the Year, at the British Book Awards.

Toby Mundy, CEO of Atlantic Books, comments: ‘Tindal Street Press occupies a unique position in the eco-system of British publishing and in recent years has established itself as one of the country’s most consistently exciting literary imprints. We’re very fired up by the prospect of working with Alan Mahar and Luke Brown [Editor] and their colleagues, and helping build their business.’

Sir Michael Lyons, Chair of the Board of Directors at Tindal Street Press, comments: ‘This agreement marks an important next step in the life of Tindal Street Press. It offers wider readership for our authors and more secure income to support our work with new writers in Birmingham and the wider English regions.’
