We are delighted to announce that Light Falling on Bamboo by Lawrence Scott has been longlisted for the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature.

Now in its third year, The OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature is a major award for literary books by Caribbean writers. Books are entered in three categories: poetry, fiction and literary non-fiction. Judges select a best book from each category with an overall winner going on to scoop the US$10,000 cash prize. The inaugural OCM Bocas Prize, presented in April 2011, was won by Derek Walcott’s White Egrets, and the 2012 Prize was won by Earl Lovelace’s Is Just a Movie.

Longlisted in the fiction category alongside This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Díaz, Archipelago by Monique Roffey and God Carlos by Anthony C. Winkler, Scott said:

‘I am thrilled my novel Light Falling on Bamboo is on the longlist for the OCM Bocas prize for Caribbean Literature. It is a very strong list with writers from across the Caribbean. The prize creates a very exciting focus for writers in the Caribbean, who live and work both at home, in the islands, and across the world.’

The winners in the three genre categories will be announced on 17 March, and the Prize will be presented on 27 April, during the third annual NGC Bocas Lit Fest in Port of Spain. The overall winner of the Prize will receive a US$10,000 award. For more information visit the Bocas Lit Fest website.
