About Us
Who we are
Tindal Street Press is one of the UK’s leading independent fiction publishers. From our regional base in Birmingham we have built a national reputation for finding, nurturing and developing new writers, several of whom have gone on to have international careers. Our prize record includes three Man Booker Prize listings, two Orange and Commonwealth Writers’ Prize nominations, and two Costa First Novel Award wins.
Our masterclasses
Tindal Street Masterclasses have been created to offer new and emerging writers in the region the opportunity to develop their craft and learn a professional approach to fiction writing on a focused, ten-week course guided by highly respected published authors.
Our course leader
Our course leader is Alan Mahar. Alan has been publishing director of Tindal Street Press since it began in 1998 and has concentrated on the editorial side of publishing. He is the author of two novels and has had several short stories, reviews and articles published.
Your experience
Students will enjoy a rigorous and creative ten-week course that will focus closely on their fiction writing in weekly, two-hour sessions. Under the guidance of our course leader, you will be given hands-on experience of how ideas and imagination, first drafts and second drafts, group discussion and one-to-one feedback, can be turned into first-class writing. And because of the changing speakers and ongoing workshops, each term’s course will be different.
