“Birmingham’s Tindal Street Press launched in 1999 with an exciting and much-lauded anthology of short stories called Hard Shoulder, and a decade later, the new anthology Roads Ahead reaffirms their flame-carrying commitment to the form. All your hot young talents like Chris Killen and Richard Milward are in these 300 awesome pages, alongside some thrilling discoveries, like the stories from Michelle Singh and Luke Brown.”
Dazed & Confused, September 2009

This book celebrates ten years of prizewinning publishing in Birmingham and commitment to new writing at Tindal Street Press. It’s a decade since we published our first book Hard Shoulder – an award-winning anthology that introduced young writers from the West Midlands. Roads Ahead consciously echoes Hard Shoulder, gathering a new selection of young writers but this time from all over the country, arriving from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

This time the editor is Catherine O’Flynn, whose debut What Was Lost was listed for every major UK prize and won the Costa First Novel Award.

Catherine O’Flynn will be introducing a small selection of the writers in ROADS AHEAD, and short readings will be interspersed with music from DJ Roy Roast Beef from Funkbox.

Please join us for a great celebration party. RSVP to gabrielle@tindalstreet.co.uk to put your name down on the list.
