As part of writLOUD, Mez Packer will be reading from her debut novel Among Thieves, at RADA, London, on the 9 August.

Among Thieves – a pacy, countercultural thiller set in 1980s Coventry – has been called ‘a highly original debut’ by the Guardian, and described as being ‘reminiscent of Martin Amis – but better plotted’ by the Independent on Sunday. It was long-listed for the 2010 Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award and shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize 2010 for Best First Book.

writLOUD is a monthly readings event showcasing both new writers from Birkbeck’s Creative Writing courses and established authors. Other speakers include Jonathon Coe and Hari Kunzru.

Admission is free of charge, but with a suggested donation to Oxfam of £3.50.
