Past Event: Launch of Box of Tricks by Jeff Phelps
- Where
- Bantock House, Finchfield Road, Wolverhampton WV3 9LQ
- When
- 7:30pm, 29th July 2009
We’re publishing this sunny seaside novel, set in New Brighton in the 1960s, just in time for the summer holidays. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the way that Jeff Phelps ‘deliciously evokes the beaches, dodgem cars and great liners leaving Liverpool on their way to the New World’ (Clare Morrall). The novel is narrated by teenage Eddie, who goes to stay at his Aunt Vi’s B&B for the summer holidays, sharing a room with his feckless teddy boy cousin Ray, and the rest of the boarding house with a flamboyant troupe of theatricals playing a season of Gilbert & Sullivan. Poignant and hilarious, Box of Tricks will introduce you to a superb ensemble cast of unusual characters.
It was hard to find a beach on which to launch the novel in Wolverhampton, but we’ll do our best to recreate some of the atmosphere by giving away special seaside confectionery. And of course, for the main event, Jeff Phelps will be reading from Box of Tricks and discussing the novel before signing your copies.
Please do join us to raise a glass to Jeff Phelps and his joyful second novel Box of Tricks. We look forward to seeing you there.
Please RSVP to Gabrielle Barnes: 0121 773 8157.
