Author of Heartland, Anthony Cartwright, will be appearing and discussing his favourite pieces of art at the Ikon Gallery as part of a series of talks entitled, These are a few of my favourite things.

In the series, a number of well-known individuals undertake a season of talks inspired by ‘Desert Island Discs’. Asked to select their eight favourite works of art, speakers will reveal their personal inspirations, illustrated by a slide show.

Subsequent speakers will include Tindal Street author Raphael Selbourne and writer and Guardian columnist Lynsey Hanley.

Anthony has been attracting great praise for his second novel – a richly imagined novel about grass-roots politics, football and the far right in a multi-ethnic town – with Esquire calling Heartland ‘the World Cup novel for the summer’.

His event takes place on 21 July at 6.30pm. Though tickets are free, they do need to be reserved beforehand by visiting the Ikon Gallery or telephoning on 0121 248 0708. More information about These are a few of my favourite things can be found on the Ikon website.
