Join Alan Beard at the Lancaster Literature Festival 2011, to hear him read from and discuss his highly praised short story collections Taking Doreen out of the Sky and You Don’t Have to Say.

Alan will be appearing with short story writer and novelist Rachel Tresize as part of the festival’s Great Short Fiction Day. Other events of the day include those featuring Polly Samson and Deborah Kay Davies.

Alan Beard’s second short story collection, You Don’t Have to Say, was published last year to great acclaim:

‘This is a writer who does amazing things with the fewest possible words’ – The Times

‘There are gems here. The best stories in the collection are those in which the action is all interior; whole worlds change, while outside someone is simply having a chat or lighting a fag’ – Guardian

‘This is an excellent collection; an observational masterpiece. Like Carver, Beard is a true master of the form’ – Short Review

Tickets for the event are £7.50/£6 concessions; day tickets are £20/£14 concessions. To book, and find out more about Litfest, you can visit the festival website here.
